Summary

The third interactive touchscreen on the Sanctuary trail, located in the South Transept, provides details on a number of different topics.

A section on Sanctuary, War and Peace examines the human cost of war, conscientious objectors and modern-day refugees. Other sections explore the history of the Minster itself and the Military Chapels present in the South Transept.

Also on the touchscreen is a section exploring the relationship between St John of Beverley and King Athelstan. Both are depicted in many places around the Minster - in stained glass, wood and stone... sometimes alone, sometimes together. Although they lived centuries apart, a painting in the South Transept depicts a fictional meeting between them.

Use the 'Movie' tab above to watch an animation detailing the connection between St John of Beverley and King Athelstan, and see the painting come to life!
